And Our Peace-of-Mind Tools for Breast Augmentation
Around this time of year the silicone vs. saline breast implant questions start rolling in again. Women are thinking ahead. They're fantasizing about how they're going to look in spring/summer fashions.
Long-held wishes for fuller or rejuvenated breasts begin surfacing.
Good Timing
And their timing is just right. Breast augmentation booked in March will have you filling out tank tops and low-cut summer dresses beautifully by April. By May you'll be back at the gym for last-minute swimsuit toning.
Then, watch out June, July and August! No more hiding your body at the beach. This is the summer for strutting your stuff.
The Upside:
Saline (salt water) implants are the kind we fill during surgery. This gives us more control over size. If your breasts are uneven we can correct the unevenness by placing different volumes of saline (salt water) in each side.
The Downside:
- 1. Saline implants have been criticized for feeling firmer.
However, improved surgical techniques — such as placing the implant behind the chest muscle and slightly overfilling it — have lessened these complaints.
- 2. If a saline breast implant ruptures, the implant will deflate like a balloon — causing the affected breast to change in size and shape.
The leaking saline solution will be absorbed by your body without posing any health risks, but you'll need surgery to remove the silicone shell. A new implant can be inserted at the same time. The implant manufacturer will replace the implants lifetime and help with the cost of replacement for premature ruptures.
Available to women age 18 and older for breast augmentation.
The Upside:
Silicone implants are pre-filled with silicone gel — a jello-like fluid that closely mimics the feel of human fat. Many women feel that silicone breast implants look and feel more like natural breast tissue.
The Downside:
If a silicone breast implant ruptures, you may not notice right away — or ever. Therefore the FDA recommends monitoring silicone breast implants with routine MRI scans every two years, starting three years after the initial implant surgery.
If an MRI scan detects an implant rupture but you don't experience any signs or symptoms, it will be up to you to weigh the risks and benefits of keeping the implant or having it replaced.
There's no evidence that leaking silicone gel causes serious, long-term health problems. There are no known diseases related to silicone leakage.
Available to women age 22 and older for breast augmentation.
Based on your body type, we may recommend one type of implant over another for optimal cosmetic results. Either type of breast implant is safe, however. Ultimately, the choice between saline and silicone is up to you.
Very thin women with little or no breast tissue or fat may notice wrinkling with saline implants. The jello- like silicone implants wrinkle less than the saline implants.
Our Breast Augmentation "Pain Suppression Pump" |
|---|
To make your breast augmentation as comfortable as possible, we offer you a state-of-the-art pain suppression pump. For the first 72 hours after surgery, a fine catheter (the circumference of a hair) drips local anesthetic into the implant site. Three days after surgery, the catheter is painlessly removed.
| See Your Results Ahead of Time |
|---|
To give you peace of mind about your results, we've acquired simulation software that lets you see how you'll look ahead of time. Our Portrait 3D system creates a 3D image of your breasts. The software performs an "augmentation" using the implant that you have chosen. This helps you visualize the size of your new breasts and choose the correct implant.
