This holiday season you’re going to be seeing people you may not have seen for months or years. Your family will be with you, and photos of your festive gatherings will be taken and placed into family albums. How will you be remembered in 2007?

As calm, warm and radiant? Or stressed and obsessed? (Obsessed with “getting everything done.”)

Keep Yourself Above the Fray
How can you make sure you don’t get on the hurrying and worrying treadmill? One way is to plan a treat for yourself. I’m talking about the kind of treat that will give you an extra boost of confidence, and get everyone wondering what you’ve been doing to keep yourself looking so young and refreshed.

Like a microdermabrasion treatment, a glycolic total body exfoliation, a facial and a massage... something that’s just for you.

Did I hear you say,
“I’m too busy to take care of myself”? Well, technically, you’re right. I find it hard to believe how much women do over the holidays.

By the time you organize holiday meals, take care of everyone’s wardrobes, buy the gifts, send out the cards and cross a million other details off your list (while making sure the house stays clean), you probably want to do nothing more than stare at nice wall for a few hours.
Self-Neglect Has Consequences
But self-neglect has a way of boomeranging on you. Neglect piles upon neglect until you run yourself down.

You may even catch the flu, spending New Year’s Eve in bed. Or you may succumb to post-holiday depression, inviting that old nag Futility in to hang around for weeks after the holidays (weeks when you should be regaining focus and decompressing, en route to your normal, balanced self again).
Do It Differently This Year
This year do it right. Here’s an at-a-glance look at the array of fast, safe and effective facial rejuvenation options available. They’ll add some “sparkle” to your holidays – without taking you out of circulation.

Procedure
What it Does
How Long it Lasts Downtime
Laser
For overall skin rejuvenation: Intense pulsed light (IPL)
Great for minor sun damage, its broad-spectrum light diminishes redness, and mild discoloration and wrinkling. Also used for eliminating spider veins and hair removal.
Long-lasting results with proper sun protection. Maintenance treatments usually required once or twice a year. Skin may be pink for a few hours, a day at most.
For smoothing skin: Fraxel laser resurfacing
Targets microscopic portions of the epidermis to improve texture, tone, pore size, smooth wrinkles and tighten skin
Improvements can last a year or two or longer. 3 – 5 treatment sessions required; results are immediate and progressive. 3 to 5 days of redness and swelling; skin may be pink for up to a week.
Injectables
Botox
Blocks nerve impulses to smooth wrinkles, especially frown lines between the eyes and crow’s feet
3 to 6 months (takes effect after 2 to 4 days). 1 or 2 days of redness, swelling; occasional bruising and tenderness resolve within days.
Restylane
Dermal filler that plumps up naso-labial folds (from nose to mouth), marionette lines (from mouth to jaw, under eyes and lips.
Up to 8 months (sometimes longer). Mild redness and swelling generally subsides within hours. Occasional bruising and tenderness resolve within days.
Juvederm
Comes in 2 strengths for plumping fine lines and lips, and deeper wrinkles
6 months or more. Mild redness and swelling subsides within hours. Occasional bruising and tenderness resolve within days.
Radiesse
Calcium-based beads form structure beneath skin around which new collagen forms. Good for nasolabial folds and marionette lines.
One to 2 years Mild redness and swelling subsides within hours. Occasional bruising and tenderness resolve within days.
